The review of the Northern Irish Protocol is at a standstill

London refuses to inspect cargo in Irish waters

The issue has plagued the Brexit talks from the beginning. This led to intense and difficult negotiations between the British and the Europeans. The issue on the northern Irish border weighs heavily on the application of divorce agreements between the United Kingdom and the European Union.

The solution found to avoid re-imposition of restrictions between British Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, a member of the European Union involved in shifting them to the Irish Sea, is not very popular across the channel.

Within the United Kingdom, the executive of Belfast, dominated by the Democratic Unionist Party, resigned on February 3 in protest of these restrictions, which have slowed trade between Northern Ireland and Great Britain. This loyal party fears a reorganization of the island of Ireland. In fact, trade between the Northern Province and the Republic soared, to the detriment of traditional relations with Great Britain.
