Rough rocks, green meadows and sea: Dirk Stephens on the road in the Wild West

Published on

Explaining nature and history, Stephens takes his audience to Ireland this time. Known for its Guinness Book of World Records for its nomadic folklore and innumerable myths, Europe’s Outpost offers truly fascinating landscapes. It is easy to imagine a fairy or troll waiting behind the next stone. This area was and still is often used as a film set. It’s either about love stories with all sorts of intricacies that take place in a wild romantic setting. Or about fantasy or science fiction: scenes from “Star Wars”, “Game of Thrones”, and of course “Harry Potter” are filmed here.

But who would have thought that Ireland was also considered an ideal place for research on sharks? More than 30 species are said to inhabit the waters around the island. Dirk Stephens searches for ghosts in the ruins of the castle, as well as the ruins of “Stonehenge” and “Selky” ruins, which are said to be much older. That is the name of the ancient creature, which consists of half seals and half beauties. You can only find something magical near a seal colony. Fun, informative and really worth seeing.
