Another bus was hijacked and set on fire in Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, an unidentified man hijacked a bus and set it on fire on the street. Passengers and the driver were allowed to leave the vehicle earlier.

A bus attacked and set fire to four people Sunday evening on the outskirts of Newtownbay in the Northern Irish capital, Belfast. According to the BBC, the kidnappers forced the passengers to get off the train. After all the passengers had exited, the red double-decker bus caught fire on the open road. Firefighters were unable to rescue the vehicle.

This is the second bus in Northern Ireland to be ambushed and destroyed in a week. Last Monday, two armed and masked men boarded a bus west of Belfast in the same treatment. Ruling DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson condemned the move on Twitter. “It’s pointless, change is achieved through politics – buses are not burned.” The motive of the arsonists is not clear.

Translink, the operator of public bus lines, suspended all bus and metro services until Monday. The driver involved was seriously injured and his colleagues will support him, reports the Belfast Telegraph.
