Kazakhstan airline stops flying to ally Russia, but not because it wanted to

Kazakhstan’s national carrier Air Astana announced on Friday (11) that it had suspended flights to Russia. After the insurance companies cut the coverage of flights to the Russian Federation in accordance with Western sanctions, the decision of the country, Russia’s historic ally, had to be made due to forced labor.

The airline said it would refund the full amount to passengers who had booked tickets earlier.

“Air Astana sincerely apologizes for notifying you that all flights to Russia have been suspended with immediate effect, as insurance coverage for commercial flights from the Russian Federation has been withdrawn. Air Astana is working with the government to resolve this issue so that flights can be restored as soon as possible.The airline announced In a press release.

The suspension follows the UK government’s announcement that it will impose sanctions on any Russian entity that prevents them from accessing the services of UK-based insurance and reinsurance companies.
