The first devices from Intel’s new Fab 34 arrived in Ireland

Although the search for suitable conditions (location and state support) continues Construction of a new factory in Europe, Intel is investing in an existing factory in Leiceslip, Ireland. The factory, which has so far used to manufacture 14 nm semiconductor chips, began development in 2019 with the completion of its new unit, Fab 34, expected in 2023.

The $ 7 billion (17 6.17 billion) expansion process will allow the construction of semiconductor objects using the new Intel Node 4 process, which is compatible with the 7 nm manufacturing process using an EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet). Process.

However, Intel has revealed pictures of the arrival of the first equipment for this new plant, which is being manufactured by Intel itself in factories in Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon and Malaysia. Prior to deployment and exposure on EUV scanners, this first tool will be used to apply layers of silicon wafers.

These wafers are then sent to the lithography unit’s machines, applied to special ovens, and new layers are applied later (if necessary) to precise cuts, so that the smaller chips can advance to the encapsulation stage. Thus arises a traditional, plug-in LGA processor.
