Former senator arrested in Jamaica for assassinating Haitian president

Haitian authorities are searching for former Haitian Senator John Joel Joseph The assassination of President Joanne Moyes in July last year, Arrested in Jamaica, local police sources said on Saturday.

Joseph was taken into custody Friday night and is now being held at a police facility, the informant said, without giving further details about the proceedings. He explained that the Jamaican security forces were working in coordination with “international partners” and that there were “joint investigations”.

The Haitian president was assassinated in July, but despite numerous arrests, uncertainty surrounding the crime remains. In the same month, the country’s authorities published a search poster for John Joel Joseph, described as a “dangerous and armed man.”

More than 40 people have already been detained in connection with the investigation, including 15 Colombians and Haitian Americans.
