Maya Angelo: Black woman first stamps US dollar coin | The world

Became the first black woman to print dollar coins on the statue of Maya Angelo, an African-American poet and activist. U.S..

Angelo will be stamped on the back of the New Generation Quarters, the most widely used 25 cent coin in the country.

Since 1932, 25-cent coins have been printed only twice, using non-coin editions.: A series of 50 coins representing each state in the 2000s and a series of national parks between 2010 and 2021.

The first copies have already been printed by the American Mint and displayed by the Treasury Department. (Watch the video above).

“Quarterseas” is being printed in large quantities for daily use in the cities of Philadelphia and Denver and will soon go into circulation, according to a note released Monday (10).

The award is the result of a bill recently passed by Democratic Congresswoman Barbara Lee 2020 from the state of California.

Among them are Sally Ride, an astronaut and physicist; Wilma Mankiller, Cherokee Nation’s first Native American leader; Nina Otero-Warren, Latin politician and activist; Actress Anna May Wong is hailed as the first actress of Asian descent.

Famous for her memoirs and poems, Maya Angelo is considered one of the best writers on the plight of blacks in the US.

In the south of the country, the poet wrote extensively about life in the area where she was born, which historically marked racial segregation.

Angelo died in 2014 at the age of 86.
