NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has decided to convene the NATO-Russia Council on January 12.And contact“In connection with Moscow, an official of the Atlantic Alliance in Brussels said on Sunday that in recent months, Mr Stoltenberg has offered Moscow several opportunities to resume dialogue within the group, which was formed in 2002, but has been suspended due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, but Russian authorities have not responded favorably.

Mutual accusations

For the past seven years, the Atlantic Alliance has consistently condemned Russia’s occupation of the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula in March 2014 and called for respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty. Russia and the Western camp accuse each other of provoking each other by strengthening military capabilities on their common borders.

In mid-December, Russia introduced two agreements, one for the United States and the other for NATO. These texts prohibit NATO’s expansion, especially into Ukraine, and restrict Western military cooperation in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union without imposing similar measures on Russia.

Jan. 12 is the first meeting proposed by Jens Stoltenberg since the announcement of Russian demands. A meeting of the NATO Military Committee, which brings together the Chiefs of Defense Staff from 30 member countries, is also scheduled for that day. Last Thursday, Jens Stoltenberg reaffirmed his support for Ukraine and his commitment to protecting all NATO allies from Russian action, while saying he was still ready for talks with the country led by Vladimir Putin.
