Intermodal train between Bologna Interport and Rotterdam

Published on

Railway company GTS 2021 will launch a train from Bologna’s port to the Rotterdam Port Bottle terminal for containers and semi – trailers, from where the containers will continue by sea to Great Britain and Ireland. In the opposite direction, units arriving in Bologna can continue their journey to Bari on GTS trains, and from there to Greece and Turkey.

The train will be open, and the 45-foot GTS containers will be able to load door-to-door shipments and terminal-terminals of other loading units, including P400 semi-trailers. In the initial phase, the service will have a frequency of three trips per week, which will increase to five in the eleventh week of 2022 and seven in the twenty-third week of the same year.

According to GTS, this service will transfer the equivalent of 20,000 industrial vehicles per year from road to rail. “We are very pleased with this new service,” says Alessio Museaki, Managing Director. “We are witnessing a worsening of the Pandemic situation, but we have once again confirmed that intermodal rail transport is strategic for the economy, confirming the continued growth in demand for Northern Europe and beyond. We decided to continue investing despite the difficulties. What makes us even more proud to be involved in this growth is that thanks to this new category, we reaffirm our continued commitment to environmental sustainability.
