Last April, scientists at the University of Sydney worked on the Breakthrough Initiatives in California, USA, which carry out scientific technologies related to the detection of extraterrestrial life, including the Saber Astronautics Institute in Australia and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Created a project called Tollyman (Telescope for Orbit Locus Interferometric Monitoring of Astronomical Neighborhood).
Ptolemy’s mission is to find out which planets are in our neighboring galaxy. The star systems Alpha Centauri and Proxima Centauri are of particular interest. Which planets are particularly favorable for life? Alpha Centauri is our closest neighboring galaxy. It consists of three loosely bound stars: Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B, Alpha Centauri C, and Proxima Centauri.
The Toliman mission will launch a custom-designed space telescope. It measures the position of the stars in the sky in great detail. Especially the search for planets orbiting other stars. This is a new way to explore and locate exoplanets near our solar system.
