Mark Zuckerberg reveals that he created a “robot skin” to develop a virtual world experience

Published on

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday unveiled a new sensor that will drive his plan forward within the Metaverse experience.

In collaboration with scientists at Carnegie Mellon University, researchers working in the field of artificial intelligence in meta prior to Facebook have created a high-precision touch sensor that can be described as a thin “robot skin”.

This substance, known as ReSkin, contains magnetic particles produced by a magnetic field. When the skin comes in contact with another surface, the magnetic field changes from the embedded particles. In doing so, the sensor records the change in magnetic flux before entering data into certain AI software, trying to determine which force or touch was applied.

The AI system needs to be trained in 100 human touches to ensure that it has enough data to understand how changes in the magnetic field are related to touch.

Zuckerberg stressed the importance of this new invention, saying, “The world is moving one step further to make things realistic in the virtual world, which allows for physical interactions in the” metavers “of the virtual world.
