The Israeli minister was barred from attending the conference due to lack of access

Israeli Energy and Water Resources Minister Karen Elhar was barred from attending the ceremony last Monday. COP-26, United Nations Conference on Climate Change, For lack of accessibility.

The Israeli government representative has muscular dystrophy, but there was no wheelchair access to the venue in Glasgow, Scotland. Elharar waited until the organizers came up with a solution that would allow him to attend the meeting.

After a two-hour wait, the minister was forced to return to the hotel where they were staying in Edinburgh, 80 kilometers away.

Elharar explained in an interview with Israeli TV station Channel 12 that he was prevented from getting into the chair attached to the motor he was using. Alternatively, use a walking or wheelchair accessible vehicle.

In a post on Twitter, the minister lamented that “the UN, which promotes access to people with disabilities, does not offer access to its events in 2021.”

Elharr apologized

Israeli Ambassador to the UK TCP Hotovelli also reported on Twitter that “everything was done to resolve the issue in real time, and there was someone to apologize after it happened.”

Neil Wigan, the British ambassador to Israel, publicly apologized for the incident. “I sincerely and sincerely apologize to the Minister. We want a COP-26 summit that is welcoming and inclusive, “he wrote on social media.
