Sudan’s prime minister should be released immediately, UN chief

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday called on the Sudanese prime minister and other officials to “immediately release those detained illegally,” condemning the “benefits” of the coups in the world this year and “the full punishment that exists in their military.” Authors.

“The major geopolitical divisions that prevent the Security Council from taking strong action, the epidemic, the economic and social hardships, the military leaders think they have full punishment and can do whatever they want because nothing has happened,” he told a news conference.

“I urge the great powers to unite for the unity of the Security Council to ensure that there is an effective defense against this epidemic of coup d’etat that the world is witnessing in Asia or Africa,” Antonio Guterres continued.

“We have found that there is no such defense, either in Burma or in many African countries,” he added, referring indirectly to Guinea and Mali.

At the request of 15 members of the UN Security Council from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, the United States, Estonia and France, an urgent meeting should be held behind closed doors at 8:00 pm GMT in Sudan. Mexico, Kenya, Niger, Tunisia and the non-permanent members of the Council, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, supported the meeting.

In the opinion of diplomats, the adoption of an announcement from Monday is under discussion, but Russia and China in particular are not sure whether to accept its approval.
