One person has been killed and seven others injured in a shooting at a party near Fort Valley State University in Georgia, South America, local officials said Saturday.

“Eight people were shot and one in eight died,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said on its Twitter account.

Authorities said the deceased, a 27-year-old man, was not a university student.

So far, authorities have not provided information on the cause of the shooting, but explained that the condition of the injured was not serious and that they had been transferred to nearby medical centers.

The university announced the cancellation of several activities planned for the weekend.

Fort Valley is a historic African-American university founded in 1895, 100 miles from Atlanta, with approximately 2,300 students.
