Keeper attacks teammates for conceding a goal – “Never seen before”

Got a red card for attacking your coworker? That is what happened in Ireland. The scary scene came in the game between FC Glentoran and FC Cholera.

Goalkeeper Aaron McCarthy’s attack on his teammate has overshadowed Northern Irish football. After FC Glentoran gave up 10-2 minutes before the end of the first division game against FC Cholera on Saturday, the goalkeeper ran furiously towards his teammate Bobby Burns.

He grabbed his collar and pushed it to the ground. The defender had previously messed up the ball, which led to a draw. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said club legend Paul Lehmann. “This is a moment of madness.”

“Both are disappointed in what happened”

McCarthy saw the red card and had to watch as his teammates saved the lottery from time to time. Glentoran coach Mick McDermott confirmed after the game that there had been a discussion between the players. “They were both disappointed in what happened,” the coach said. “We will take care of it.” This is important, McDermott clarified, and did not hit Burns in the face.

There have been similar cases in the Bundesliga. For example, Jens Lehmann was sent off in the Revier derby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 (2-2) in February 2003 after attacking a Brazilian who had invaded Marcio Amoroso.
