Rugby: Puma need “rest” in their coach’s opinion

Puma coach Mario Ledesma speaks to his players during a warm-up match against Australia at the Rugby Championship on October 2, 2021, on the Gold Coast.

France’s first opponents in the Test series in November, Argentina’s Puma, need a break after a year without a painful break at the rugby championship, coach Mario Ledesma said on Saturday.

On the Gold Coast on Saturday, the Argentines did not disappoint themselves against second-placed Australia (32-17) in the tournament, as did South Africa and New Zealand.

The Puma, who have played all their away matches (against Springbox in South Africa, and then against All Blacks and Wallabies in Australia), have not scored a single bonus point and have not scored all five of those five attempts.

“We’ve always made the same mistakes,” Ledesma said. “Discipline and success, especially conflict, do not make our opportunities a reality,” he explained.

“They (the players) need the rest, they don’t have the rest this year. The boys played for twelve consecutive months,” added the former international hooker who led last year. The history of the Puma against New Zealand to their first victory.

Players who went to Europe last season due to an epidemic that temporarily halted Jaguar Province’s participation in the Southern Rugby Super Rugby have been directly involved in the selection for the July tour after the end of the club season. Rugby Championship after a break of ten days.

“This is not the best way to prepare them, they need rest,” Ledesma insisted.

However, the manager has little space to control the playing time of his non-selected players, and most of them can be expected to protect their club from playing in England, France or Italy, rather than contracting with the Jaguars.
