Rio World Champion Jerome Boateng makes a successful debut in Olympic Lyon’s jersey. Defender arrived with his new club on Sunday in League 1 3-1 (1-0) against racing Strasbourg. An hour later the boat was replaced. Moussa Dembele (8), Jason Denier (64) and Lucas Pacquiao (87) scored the goals for Lyon’s second victory of the season. Habib Diallo scored from the penalty spot for Strasbourg (90 + 7).
The 33-year-old Boateng signed a two-year deal with the French First Division club earlier this month. In the team of former Leverkusen Bundesliga coach Peter Bose, the defender must bring his experience to stabilize the defense. Boateng played solidly as the fans cheered, but saw a yellow card in the 83rd minute after a foul.
Boateng’s contract with German record champions FC Bayern Munich expires on June 30, allowing him to sign as a non-club player after his transfer to France.
Boateng recently made headlines after a Munich district court fined him 1. 1.8 million for attacking his ex-girlfriend. Boateng’s defender Kai Walden has demanded an acquittal, while the professional footballer has denied the allegations.
This was Lyon’s second win in a row after a poor start to the season. The former series champions are seventh with eight points after five games, seven points behind top leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the table.
