Milano – The Irish Privacy Authority has imposed a fine of 225 million euros WhatsApp. The US company, which has owned Facebook since 2014, has been accused of violating European laws on the protection of personal data. According to the Authority WhatsApp It “does not meet the obligations of transparency” as it communicates with users about the use of data. In particular, WhatsApp will not inform EU citizens about the methods, usage and sharing of their personal data with Facebook.

For this, Whatsapp now needs to expand its privacy rules. A WhatsApp spokesman told CNBC that the company plans to file an appeal. “We are committed to providing a secure and privacy-friendly service. We disagree with today’s decision and the fine is not entirely proportional,” he commented. On the recommendation of the European Data Protection Board, Ireland revised the original permit.
