The current format of World Cup, Playing every four years, may count its days. According to UOL, FIFA’s governing body is studying the possibility of hosting the biggest tournament in the sport every two years.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is more interested in this change, which will lead more teams to the final stage of the competition, and more countries will have the opportunity to host the tournament. It should be remembered that from the 2026 World Cup, 32 to 48 teams will play in the World Cup.

According to the publication, the African Football Confederation (CAF) was in favor of the change, guaranteeing 56 votes out of a possible 211 in Congress. The continent intends to host the 2010 World Cup again. Morocco was already a candidate in the 2006, 2010 and 2026 editions, but all of them failed.

If the change is approved, the World Cup will take place every two years after the 2026 tournament in three North American countries (Canada, the United States and Mexico). In other words, the first edition will be in 2028.

For the 2030 tournament, South America, along with Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay, is competing with Europe, more precisely, for England. FIFA wants to expand to the United Kingdom, which includes Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Spain and Portugal are fighting together. The African nominee may be selected in 2032, while China, the beloved China, will host the 2034 World Cup.
