Ireland’s ambassador to the UN, Geraldine Byrne Nason, called This Monday (16) He said the situation in Afghanistan of “political failure” gave priority to the rights of women and girls.

“An extraordinary political failure, but a growing security and humanitarian crisis.” Nathan told a news conference minutes before the Security Council meeting.

“When I walk into this table, my mind’s priority is the vulnerable people abandoned on the shores of Kabul across Afghanistan, especially women and girls.” Added.

“My intention this morning is for the Security Council to show solidarity with women and girls who have doubts about the future. We know there is political uncertainty. What we cannot do is ignore the fact that human rights and fundamental rights, especially of women and girls, are being abolished now and then, and we can talk to women in Afghanistan.

This year, the rotating members of the Security Council are Estonia, India, Ireland, Mexico, Niger, Norway, Kenya, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Tunisia and Vietnam. Each rotating member carries a two-year term.

The permanent members with veto power are the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China.
