The pair of Ireland and Italy were declared Olympic double light rowing champions on Thursday, winning the final on the Sea Forest Channel at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The Irish men’s team formed by Vinton McCarthy and Paul O’Donoghue – last silver with their brother in Rio – won gold with a time of 6: 06.43, followed by silver medalists Jonathan Rummelman, Jason Osborne (6: 07.29) and Stefano Ubro, who finished with a time of 6: 14.30. Both won bronze.

The victory in the women’s category went to Italy, who had beaten France hard. Valentina Rodini and Federica Cesarini set a record of 6: 47.54, 6: 47.68 for Laura Tarantola and Claire Bowen. Dutch Marek Kaiser and Els Polis (6: 48.03) won bronze.
