The wreckage of the Indonesian submarine that sank in April will not be found

Published on

The Indonesian government has abandoned the discovery of the wreckage of the RI Nangala 402 submarine. At the end of last April, he sank with 53 crew members during an exercise 100 km off the north coast of Bali. The submarine was found on the beach at a depth of about 800 meters and broke into three parts.

In the past few weeks, Indonesian recovery teams with the help of some Chinese teams have made about twenty dives. They were able to take photos and the wreckage of the submarine, but the bodies of the crew members were not found. Noticing the difficulties in exploring the area, the Indonesian authorities decided to end operations without attempting new recoveries.

Built in Germany in 1977, the KRI Nangala 402 is one of five submarines supplied to the Indonesian Navy. On April 23, he was training for a torpedo 60 miles off the north coast of Bali, but at times he stopped communicating. Evidence of fuel was found near where he was before the sinking, which caused damage to the tank.

International search missions were organized to find the submarine, but soon the Indonesian navy feared the submarine had gone too deep.
