Coming Pietro Ruta and members of the Italian national team are set to head into the water for the second round of the Rowing World Cup. From today, the assignment will be on the waters of the legendary Rottweiler Basin, which will be used for rowing sports – to compare to football – as ancient stadiums: Maracana, San Siro or the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ruta, the standard bear of Fiam Oro, who grew up in Connaughtier Menagio on this expedition, will be the only Larian from the start. He is expected to captain the team in the “Double Lightweights” competition with Stefano Oppo.
Since the entire podium of the last European Championship has been registered, it is a test that promises to be very competitive.
Ruta and Oppo (bronze at the Waris Continental event) will face Irish Fintan McCarthy, Paul O’Donoghue (gold medal), Germans Jonathan Rommelmann and Jason Osborne (silver).
Today the battery of Roota and Oppo is scheduled for 11.35. Their rivals Chile, China, Portugal 2, Norway 1 and Egypt are the first two places to advance directly to the semifinals.
Of the existing countries, the most registered crew are Holland, sixteen boats, Italy, Great Britain, thirteen boats, and host Switzerland a total of eleven forms. Despite the current pandemic conditions, many non-European countries such as China, Cuba, Peru and the United States came to Lucerne to compete.
