Dreger lost an Olympic ticket – and set the course for the World Cup

Published on

Mari-Louis Droger’s wish (for the time being) to participate in the Olympic Games for the fifth time is not being fulfilled. The 40-year-old Rover lost his Tokyo ticket. In the semi-finals, Drugger and Katrin Walk (Ulm) finished fourth and ninth in the lightweight double skull.

Americans Molly Reckford / Michelle Sexer won over Patricia Mers / Frederick Roll (Switzerland) and Iof Casey / Margaret Kremen (Ireland). All three boats are in Japan.

“It simply came to our notice then. We had to run a big race to get to the finals, ”Druger concluded, adding that he had been in the same boat with his new partner for two and a half months.

Both are heading to the World Cup in Sabodia (Italy) in early June and the World Championships in Shanghai (China) in October.

Druger, who has competed in the Olympics four times, refused to pursue his career at the end of this season. In 2024 in Paris, the lightweight twin skull will finally be part of the Olympic program. The 2019 World Champion German Rowing Association (DRV), which is launching for Schwarzene RG, expects an idea and hopes that “lightweights will not fall behind.”

From a DRV standpoint, the weekend was disappointing. Only women can book tickets to Tokyo in eight boats with Anekatrin Theil (Leipzig) and Leoni Menzel (Dസെsseldorf). This means that the DRV is only represented in the Japanese metropolis with a total of seven boats. Three starting places less than the 2016 Summer Games in Rio.
