Pandemic women are most affected

Published on

The figures are based on a report by Oxfam International, a confederation of 14 human rights groups.

Everyone knows that the Pandemic has severely affected the world economy and workers. But it is now clear how this really is: the biggest economic impact has been on women.

It affects women more

Women lost more than $ 800 billion last year. This is 7.27 trillion Swedish kronor. That’s the combined GDP of more than 98 countries, according to CNN Business.

– The economic impact of the Kovid-19 pandemic has further affected women, who are disproportionately represented in low-wage jobs, fewer benefits and less secure jobs, says Gabriela Butcher, Oxfam International Director.

Inequality before the Pandemic

Globally, women have lost more than 64 million jobs. This is five per cent of all jobs for women.

Males make up 3.9 percent of the population, according to Oxfam. The difference in lost income is much larger than that. Even before the Pandemic, women earned 77 cents for every dollar they earned, CNN Business reports.

– We had a crisis about inequality before 2020, and it has now erupted. Allowing women to deal with this crisis is the result of a lack of focus on political design, which has led us here to the collapse of the system, says Mara Bolis.
