The asteroid, which measures a maximum of one kilometer in total (the latest figures indicate a diameter of 440 to 680 meters and has a range of 2.4 to 0.8 kilometers), is one of the fastest space objects ever traveled. Earth.

According to NASA, it orbits at a speed of 34 kilometers per second, and for comparison, the Earth orbits the Sun at an average speed of 30 kilometers.

This asteroid is being monitored, for example, by Hawaiian Mana Key Observatories. Experts on the Italian Virtual Telescope Project photographed it after the flight.

According to astronomers, this is not a hazard and is unlikely to collide with Earth. However, the distance of two million kilometers during the next flyby is certainly very small from an astronomical point of view.

Until 2052 it will not be the same

“We know exactly the orbit of FO32 2001 around the Sun, and we’m been following it since it was discovered 20 years ago.

Asteroid 2001 FO32 will last 810 days in orbit around the Sun, and will not reach 2052 this year.
