Home vs. Mandatory technical control of motorcycles in France

On February 25, the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee asked the Commission to include motorized two – wheelers in its technical control. This measure will take effect on January 1, 2022

Unlike its neighbors, France does not conduct technical inspections for two-wheeler owners, except for resale. Disappearing exception: On February 25, the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee asked the Commission to include motorized two – wheelers in its technical controls, reports motomag.com.

However, in 2020, like Finland, the Netherlands or Ireland, it took 2 years to implement this measure, which could have been avoided as long as steps were taken to reduce the risk of two-wheelers. Its efforts, like those of Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Malta and Portugal, are considered inadequate, and the obligation of road eligibility testing will take effect from 1 January 2022.

According to MEPs, “the number of deaths among 2 and 3 wheel drivers is declining very slowly among all vehicle users in the European Union”. The motion was approved by 48 votes to one. In France, according to Road Safety Website, “Motorized two-wheelers represent 23% of deaths, with 627 motorcyclists and 133 mopeds killed in 2018.”
