Popular Messenger WhatsApp users now need to verify their identity using biometrics in order to link their WhatsApp number with an app on a popular computer or access the web version.

Facebook-owned Messenger has decided to increase the security of its apps to limit the possibility of connecting to user accounts without the knowledge or permission of third parties. If face or fingerprint unlocking is enabled for the user’s phone, an authentication process is required to link the number link to the PC application or web version of the service.

After verifying your identity, you will need to scan the QR code with your phone.

The new biometric authentication feature is enabled by default, and the only way to deactivate it when linking an account is to disable face or fingerprint unlock completely.

WhatsApp guarantees no access to users ‘biometric data, and the authentication process goes through the phones’ operating system.

WhatsApp’s new security feature works with someone else – sending a notification to the phone when someone logs into an account on the Internet or computer.

The company said it wants to add more functionality to the Mac and Windows apps and web version this year.

As “Strana” writes, WhatsApp has postponed the coming into force of new privacy rules, which require users to share data with Facebook.
