Ross d’Or: Half of the theatrical nominees from Germany

Published on

EBU and C21 Media, co-hosts of the traditional Rose d’Or Awards for entertainment content, announced their nominations for this year – a strong year in the German perspective. As usual, British productions dominate the region by a wide margin, but Germany has the second highest number of nominations ahead of the USA and Belgium – with a total of eight German productions working for Golden Rose.

This year, the drama series will be divided equally between German and British productions. Netflix did not have Anna LDF in addition to the series “Type”, and even shortlisted for any Emmy Award for Best Director for “Babylon Berlin” (X Films Creative Pool for Sky Array) and “Das Boot for Built” (Bavarian Fiction for Sky). Three of the six nominations went to Germany, followed by “Ordinary People”, “The Capture” (both BBC) and “Bahadur Central” (Channel 4). In the free section of comedy series and sitcoms, there is at least one French series with “Parliament”, in which the WDR also had a hand.

In the documentary area, one can expect an award for filmmaking by the Beats brothers. Your documentary “Das Forum” about the World Economic Forum in Davos is on the list of nominees there. The second nomination in this category went to Germany with “Afghanistan. Wounded Land” by LOOKSfilm. There is another documentary on the race with “Wim Vendors. Desperado” from NDR, which is sorted into the “Arts” section.

The German nominees’ field was completed by Florida Entertainment’s Joko and Class Against Prosiben (listed under the title “Beat the Channel” by Ross de O’Reilly). The show has seemed a bit unfocused in recent episodes, however;

Who actually gets the Golden Rose will be announced on December 9 at a virtual event hosted by comedian Nish Kumar and will air on rosedor.com.
