Ireland’s Prime Minister Martin believes in EU – UK trade agreement

Dublin / London. Irish Prime Minister Michel Martin hopes that the negotiations on a Brexit trade agreement between Great Britain and the European Union will end successfully. “After talking to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, I think his attitude tells him that a deal makes sense,” Martin told Bloomberg on Monday evening.

Although there has been no agreement so far on conflicts such as fishing rights or competitive conditions, the negotiating teams on both sides were preparing for a conclusion.

Discussionists David Frost and Michael Barnier are currently in Brussels. Time is of the essence as both parties have not yet agreed on an agreement. Several deadlines have already passed. According to media reports, those concerned believe that a breakthrough will be possible early next week.

Great Britain left the European Union at the end of January, but is in a transitional phase until the end of the year, in which the same rules apply as before. Without a contract, tariffs, long traffic jams at the border and other trade barriers are likely to occur. Irish Prime Minister Martin described the situation in Brexit as “horrendous”.
