Manchester City returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Southampton.

Raheem Sterling scored a Kevin de Bruyne cross to give the City a lead and they were able to score all three points after a Premier League draw.

Southampton have conceded just one defeat in their previous 11 games, but City have managed to score all three of their goals but have failed to achieve all three.

They have scored just 19 goals in their first 13 Premier League games this season. Pep Guardiola’s progress is steady.

Southampton made a brilliant start and tried to prevent Manchester City from stabilizing or controlling the ball, confidently following goalkeeper Ederson and forcing him to touch a few kicks.

City were clinical when the opportunity arose, and in the 16th minute Sterling returned a low de Bruyne cross to the back of the net.

Southampton hit back with Theo Walcott, who was praised by the manager following a mid-week display against former club Arsenal, and scored several runs towards City’s goal.

Ralph Hassenhuttle said before looking back at his manager’s confidence in him, creating problems for the city right every afternoon in the game that he’s likely to make his season-long loan from the Everton regular 31 – year – old.

Southampton continued to dominate the final half of the first half but failed to create clear chances.

Their task became even more difficult this season when Danny Ings, who had seven goals to his name, was sent off just before the break.

At the start of the second half Manchester City came down hard and doubled their lead when Ferran Torres ran to the right before the crossbar.

Torres got another chance after De Bruyne skillfully created space on the left before feeding across the spinard, but was able to turn the box but lost control and was caught by Alex McCarthy.

Despite being on the edge of the City box, Southampton were unable to regain their momentum from the end of the first half into the second half.

De Bruyne had a chance to complete all three points for C point after Bernardo Silva had played in the 70th minute, but his last attempt was powerless and McCarthy was able to concede, and Ilke Gundogan saved an attempt.
