Covni visits Paris for talks with French rivals during Brexit deadline

Published on

Simon Covani is visiting Paris today for talks with his French rivals.

The foreign minister will exchange views on Brexit and other European issues.

Covni said: “I am delighted to be in Paris today to further strengthen the vast and ever-important partnership between Ireland and France.

The friendship that has lasted this year is invaluable as we have worked together to meet the economic and social challenges of the Kovid-19 Pandemic. ”

He will hold talks with French and European Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian. He will also meet with French and European Minister of Foreign Affairs Clement Buenos Aires.

Covni added: “At this crucial moment, I would like to discuss Brexit with my French colleagues.

I greatly appreciate the solidarity that France has consistently shown throughout this process.

I know we will continue to have a strong record of cooperation in the UN Security Council when Ireland takes over the seat in the coming weeks.

“As like-minded EU member states, I am confident that we will have a close and constructive relationship during our tenure.”
