Trump appealed the ruling on electoral postal services

Published on

U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Louis Dijoy and President Donald Trump have appealed the federal judge’s ruling.

The government has said it will appeal the legal order issued by U.S. District Judge Emmett Sullivan in late September.

Sullivan instructed the USPS to take extraordinary steps to ensure that millions of ballots were delivered by mail and that several hearings were held on the condition of the ballots.

As the deadline for receiving ballots by mail for the November 6 election has passed, it is not immediately clear what impact this final step will have on the appeal.

Reuters and several other news organizations have elected Joe Biden as president.

The White House, the Justice Department and the USPS did not comment Friday evening.

Sullivan also ordered a two-day sweep of USPS services serving the states with an extended ballot receipt deadline.

At a hearing earlier this month, Sullivan said he would ask Dijoy to answer a question about why the postal service failed to complete a court-ordered sweep for undelivered ballots.

Sullivan had said that Dijoy would either resign or appear before me and swear why some action had not been taken.
