In Test rugby, Shane Daly could travel to the Ireland camp at a pace that would allow the Munster Fullback to travel long distances on the international stage.
The 23-year-old from Cork was left out of Ireland’s match-day squad for Sunday’s autumn Nations Cup clash with Georgia on Sunday. Head coach Andy Farrell said it was a worthwhile opportunity despite not playing. From Munster’s PRO14 semi – final against Leinster on September 4.
“Shane, this is a specialty, isn’t it?” Farrell said. “Give someone a chance, get off the bench to make their debut for their country, this is a special moment for him and his family.
“He deserves it. He’s been a bit unlucky throughout this tournament. He was injured three or four weeks before coming to camp.
“But he fit in incredibly well. We always talk about the different pressures of an international training camp, especially for a young man, he fit in very well.
“I am just happy to be here. He’s a player who can hold many positions for us, and he’s calm and collecting in how he approaches the game, so we hope he brings it to his debut performance over the weekend. ”
