Authorities report 936 new COVID-19 cases and 7 new deaths related to the virus

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolf updated the community on the local response to COVID-19 during their daily briefings Friday night.

Nirenberg reported a total of 72,313 Kovid-19 cases and 1,316 deaths in Berar County. An increase of 936 new cases as of Friday. Seven new deaths were reported today.

The 7-day moving average is 399.

Nirenberg said Metro Health would send one Emergency alert for residents Friday night at 7 p.m. Inform them about Spike and what they can do to stay safe. This is the first time since mid-July that this high rate has been reported.

Nirenberg said 62 patients have been admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours. He added that there are currently 65 Kovid-19 patients from El Paso in San Antonio hospitals.

To help people understand case numbers during a briefing, Assistant City Manager and Interim Metro Health Director Dr. Colin Bridger provided some context. Most of the new cases are reported within 10 days.

Bridger says the 7-day rolling average is the most important, which makes the cascade better understood throughout the week.

She said the city is now testing more than it did when there were more than a thousand people in the city during the peak in May, which is good because it will help find contact and control the spread.
