World number one Dustin Johnson won the Masters at Augusta National to secure his second career major title.

American Johnson, who won the US Open in 2016, has four under-68 shots in 20 weeks: Australian Cameron Smith (69) and South’s Im Sung-jai (69).

Rory McIlroy finished fifth on the 11th after 69 on the final day. This left Dylan Fritelli and Justin Thomas behind at the Northern Irish level.

Shane Lori scored 73 runs.

A former world number one under 76, Tiger Woods, a five-time Masters winner, suffered a tough final as he was once again in the top 40 on the team.

Twelfth Twelfth hole proved to be low, as he found water three times in front of the green when he went to 10 – the highest single-hole score of his career.

As happened on Masters Day Four

But it was Johnson who rose to the occasion in four days in Georgia.

He tested positive for Covid-19 in October, surpassing the Under-18 tournament record set by Woods in 1997, and matched Jordan’s speed in 2015.

Smith and Im, a runner-up in tournament history, scored a total of 15 runs and became the first player to score 70 runs in four rounds, but Johnson is a class different, now with two wins and three runners-up finishing third and sixth in the last seven starts.

Johnson aimed to become the first world number one player to win a Masters since Woods in 2002, but was 54-4 when it came to sharing the lead after 54 holes in a major championship.

The 36-year-old took a three-shot lead in the final round of the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach, but it was reduced to 82, five years later when he dropped three balls from 12 feet in the 72nd hole in Chambers Bay. To complete a shot behind Jordan Speith.

Johnson won his first major title at the 2016 US Open in Oakland, but was relegated to eighth place from a draw at Shinnok Hills two years later after failing to change a shot lead at the US PGA Championships in August.

Playing the first five holes in another over, Johnson’s four shots seemed like another painful defeat, at least to a single stroke overnight. Smith and Im chose two early birds.

Final Leaderboard

Johnson had a great reaction with a bird on the sixth day of Par-Three, and as I made a bogey, the lead turned back to three until Smith unveiled the stunning bird from the trees on the seventh day.

Smith was unable to take a shot in the eighth in the par-five, but on the ninth he made another incredible recovery shot from the pine straw, which took a lucky bounce and rolled to four feet to set up a birdie.

Johnson took a two-shot lead just before the eighth minute. Was relegated to ninth place. In the eleventh, Smith got a welcome spot when he dropped a shot.

Johnson, who fell to the ball in the thirteenth Fairway, wisely chose to go green in the fifth inning for two, but calmly hit his third shot at 12 feet and lift Berdy Putt.

Johnson is yet to finish on the 14th and 15th. Johnson became the first under-20 player in tournament history.

Away from the battle for the title, defending champion Tiger Woods had a nightmare at Par-Three 12, hitting three balls into the water and eventually taking two wickets for 10 runs, the highest score of his career.

However, 15 times the Major responded incredibly, restoring some pride with five birdies in the final six holes and completing 76.
