Sergio Garcia will miss the Masters after being tested positive for the corona virus

Published on

Former champion Sergio Garcia has been ruled out of the Masters this week after being tested positive for Kovid-19.

Garcia, who beat Justin Rose, the only major champion to ever win at the Augusta Nationals in 2017, will miss out on his first major championship since 1999.

The 40-year-old Spaniard wrote on Twitter: “I had a sore throat and cough after driving from the Houston Open on Saturday night.

“I had symptoms on Sunday morning, so I decided to try Kovid-19, as well as my wife, Angela. Thankfully she tried the negative, but I didn’t.

“After 21 years without seeing a major championship, I will miss the Masters this week.

“The important thing is that I and my family feel well. We can go back more strongly and go for the green jacket next April. ”

Despite losing to Cut Garcia in Houston, Sanderson won his 11th PGA Tour title at the Farms Championships last month.

The Ryder Cup star missed his last two Masters opening cuts, setting an unnecessary record for most strokes in a hole in tournament history in 2018 when he scored 13 of 15 in the first round of his title defense.
