Fort Lauderdale, Florida – A hurricane made landfall in southern Florida and the Florida Keys on Monday morning, the National Hurricane Center said. Many areas were flooded, beaches and corona virus testing sites were closed, public transportation was closed, and some eviction sites were closed.

Eta crashed in Florida after scores died in Mexico and Central America and more than a hundred people went missing.

South Florida received more than 14 inches of rain last month.

CBS News meteorologist David Parkinson said the maximum humidity in Miami-Dade and Broward (counties) in Florida had turned into a downpour the previous day or so and there had been significant flooding. “It’s going to rain six inches,” he said.

Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose Pepe Diaz warned that “in some areas water is not flowing out as fast as it should.”

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said he was in constant contact with county water officers about the fight over the floodwaters, which caused vehicles to stall, some intersections to be whitewashed, and some homes to be raided.

More than 18,000 homes and businesses in Miami-Dade and Broward counties were left without electricity. CBS Miami reports, Quoting Florida Power & Light.

On Monday morning, winds of up to 65 mph were moving west over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. It centered 80 miles west-northwest of Key West and moved west at a speed of 13 miles per hour.

On the forecast track, the hurricane center said Eta will gradually move from the Florida Keys and South Florida Monday night to Monday night from the southeastern Gulf of Mexico.

But one of Etta’s bands, Parkinson, explained that “the shop has started and is not moving.” In addition, another round of rain is expected Monday night, targeting Miami and southwest Florida to stop rain in South Florida.

Eta made the landfall late Sunday with the Lower Mattekumbe key.

CBS Miami said A tractor-trailer truck crashed into the side of the express highway due to heavy rain on the roads.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the semi-driver lost control just before 5 p.m. The truck moved to the right, got off the shoulder, and rested there. Only minor injuries were reported.

On Sunday night, authorities in Lauderhill, Florida, responded to a report of a crash into a canal. Photos taken by firefighters 30 miles north of Miami showed rescuers searching high water near a parking lot.

The Lauderhill Fire Department said firefighters pulled a man out of a car and rushed him to hospital in critical condition. Respondents continued to search for others.

Assistant Loaderhill Fire Chief Jeff Levy told CBS Miami: “A lot of firefighters were able to get in the vehicle, get the victim out and out, start the CPR and take him to Broward General Hospital.

CBS Miami reports that a tree fell on the roof of a duplex in Miami, displacing seven people from two families. No one is hurt.

Officials ordered the evacuation of Keys, mobile home parks, campgrounds, RV parks and low-lying areas. Roads have already been flooded and several school districts have closed, saying buses could be blown away to pick up students. Several shelters were opened in Miami and Keys.

“Please take this storm seriously,” said Bill Johnson, Palm Beach County Emergency Management Director. “Please do not drive on flooded roads.”
