Villarreal have been forced to delay their Europa League clash with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday following incredible rains.

The La Liga side, nicknamed the Yellow Submarine, submerged their Estadio de la Ceramica moments before the kick-off.

As the game was about to start at 9pm local time, a heavy downpour fell on the east coast of Spain.

Referee Nikola Dabanovic delayed the start as ground officials angrily hit the water.

The home team’s social media crew released stunning pictures of the storm showing the cardboard cut-outs of the fans getting wet.

A bad tweet from visitors showed that the submerged turf was affected by the rain – with the caption ‘Improving’.

Villarreal confirmed that 60 liters of water fell per square meter in just 45 minutes.

Surprisingly, the skies in the Mediterranean quickly cleared and the game was able to start under perfectly reasonable circumstances.

Officials met with representatives of both teams and the players were able to take part in the warm-up match.

Local time was 10.10pm when the referee blew the whistle – allowing the latest UEFA Europa League game to be kicked off.

In the fourth minute, Villarreal unleashed their energy with Carlos Bacca’s opener.

The Colombian added another minute after half-time before Alex Beena and Fer Nino won 4-0.
