Veteran Foreign Correspondent Robert Fisk dies at 74

A well-known journalist working in the Middle East died at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin on Friday, the Irish Times reported.

Fisk has won numerous awards for his reporting on the Middle East. With a career spanning more than five decades, Fisk also includes the Balkans and North Africa. In 2005, the New York Times named him “Britain’s most famous foreign correspondent”.

Born in Kent in 1946, Fisk later became an Irish citizen and settled in Dalki.

Before becoming the paper’s Middle East correspondent, he covered the issues of Northern Ireland between 1972 and 1975 for the Fisk Times.

The Independent, written by Fisk since 1989, called him “the most famous journalist of his time.”

Christian Broton, Managing Director The Independent Said: “Fearless and uncompromising, he is absolutely committed to revealing determination, truth and truth at all costs, and Robert Fisk was the best journalist of his generation. The fire he lit. The Independent Will be burned. ”

President Michael de Higgins and his wife, Sabina, offered their condolences to Fisk’s family.

I learned with great sadness at the death of Robert Fisk. The world of journalism has lost one of its best commentators on its passing and informed commentary on the Middle East, ”Higgins said in a statement.

“I have had the privilege of getting to know Robert Fisk since the 1990s, and I have met him in some of the countries where he wrote with such great understanding. I met him in Iraq, and last time I met him was in Beirut during his official visit to Lebanon last year.

I know he was greatly influenced by his adoption of Irish citizenship, and his influence on young coaches in journalism and political writing was witnessed by the large audience that attended his talks in Ireland. ”
