Roscommon Player Positive for Kovid, Offali Test Panel

Roscomon’s plans for the Alliance Football League clash with Cavan have been thwarted by the announcement that a member of their senior football panel has tested positive for Kovid-19.

A statement released by the Roscommon County Board on Wednesday night confirmed that a player and Corona Athens are now self – segregated, while referring for an indefinite number of close relationships are also being segregated for testing.

The statement read: “A member of the Roscommon senior football panel tested positive for Kovid-19.

“After receiving instructions from HSE in conjunction with our medical team, the members of the panel and management who are considered to be the next contacts are now referred for examination and their controlled movement period has begun.

“Members and management of this panel will rejoin the panel only when they feel HSE is secure.

Senior football management and the panel have always strictly adhered to HSE and public health guidelines.

Roscoman advanced to Division 1 after beating Armag 3-10 to 0-15 in the first match of seven months last weekend and is expected to face off against Cavan on Saturday as planned.

At the same time, Opal Hallers’ plans for this weekend’s Christie Ring Cup draw have been badly affected.

Three players had to withdraw from the Leinster Under-20 hurling championship victory against Westmeath due to Covid-19 protocols.

Many in their senior squad fear that they will be considered close associates of the Kovid-19 case.

The Offline Board understands that HSE officials are in contact, and if they think they have a close relationship, they will have to isolate those involved and exclude them from the ring cup opener against Kildare on Saturday.

Given the need for a 14-day isolation period, these developments may prompt Ophelia to give David Heriti a walkover.

It is believed that the squad is currently engaged in a quick inspection of the GAA.
