The M1 in Leicester is closed in both directions as the lorry is on fire.

Firefighters were called to the south side of the train near the Leicester Forest East Service just after 6 a.m. today, and the fire was still burning an hour later.

The motorway is closed in both directions from Junction 22 at Markfield to Junction 21 at Foss Park, causing widespread traffic problems.

The A46 is as busy approaching the M1 as the M69, and the M1 itself has queues – both north and south.

Leicester’s outer turret ring road is badly congested – especially along New Parksway and the south side of Labbestorpway on the north side.
