Greg Sloget hopes his family and friends have a 2020 vision for the Europa League – but tonight his vision for 2021 is set in it.
Dundalk’s trip to Slogget’s former club Derry City, aiming for three points to consolidate third place and secure European football next season.
But the clash with Moldova on Thursday in the Europa League group stage in Tolkien is also on the horizon, with the Lilly Whites preparing to compete with the big boys again.
Rapid Wein and Arsenal are coming, and Sloget is enjoying the opportunity.
He said: “This is a perfect group. A great name.
“I don’t know if they are a relationship that can be handled, I hope we can take points and compete in the group.
An unforgettable year
“But we’ll see Moldo soon, that’s the first big game.
“In the group, we hope to be able to do ourselves justice, and we can be proud of that.
“This is a huge achievement, albeit the only thing we do this year.
“I look back in 2020 at everything we did.
Primary focus
But before all that, the trip to Derry and the need for points to ensure that Dantalk can compete again in Europe next season.
Sloget said: “We went through four or five months of misspellings without playing a game, so more games would be better.
“We’re all looking forward to it, a lot of games are thick and fast.
“But we will not look at Thursday and Mold until Tuesday.
“Our focus is on Monday, and we’ve got three points on the board.”
Like rotation
Dondalk boss Filippo Giovagnoli is likely to turn the team around with Thursday’s game in mind, with only Dane Masi (hip) absent.
Connor McCormack has been suspended for injuries to Joe Thompson and Allie Gilchrist.
Boysports ADS: Derry City 23-10, Dandalk 23-20, draw 11-5.
Verdict: Dandalk
