Santa Cruz’s 2021 Bullet Electric Mountain Bike is powered by a 170mm VPP rear wheel drive and Shimano’s EP-8 electric motor with a 630Wh battery.
Continuing a theme for electric bikes, the new Bullet features a 27.5in rear wheel at the rear and a 29in wheel at the front, with both rims wrapped in double own casing Maxis tires.
The 2021 Bullet is available in four models, priced from 6,899 / $ 7,499 /, and the Bullet CCR-Shimano Steps E7000 motor is used from 6 7,699 – and the 4 4,099 / $ 11,499 / € 11,699. Range Bullet CCX01 RSV.
All models of the new Bullet share Santa Cruz’s CC level carbon fiber construction.
Those who remember the 1998 edition of the single-pivot Santa Cruz bullet will look at it fondly. With a 152mm rear wheel drive, the 160mm travel fork was ideal for this bike, and the boundaries between Dawn and Freyride were blurred.
In 2007, the Bullitt received an update with an increased travel of up to 178mm, but retained the classic single pivot shape.
This model disappeared from the Santa Cruz range in 2011 with a simple single pivot suspension. Since then the brand has been on and off on single pivot bikes, but bikes like Heckler – this is now the name of the brand’s 150mm Travel EMTB.
The 2021 bullet sits on top of the Heckler, also known as the ubiquitous Burley Trial Bike, which claims to be able to easily handle steep ascents and descents as it has the same “gnar-taming capabilities” of the Nomad and Megatower.
2021 Santa Cruz Bullet Frame Details
The bullet is made from CC carbon fiber (sooner or later) and is designed to be a mixed wheel size, with a 27.5in wheel at the rear and a 29in wheel at the front. Santa Cruz claims to have bullet front end grips while retaining the active riding features of smaller wheels.
A bottle cage mount is mounted on top of the down tube and a shock protection mudguard is built into the front triangle to reduce debris landing directly on the shock piston.
It has an integrated chain and seat stay protector to help reduce chain lap noise.
The 630Wh Shimano Steps battery is integrated into the down tube of the bike, but can be removed once a cover is removed.
Lifetime guarantee
Supports Santa Cruz Bullet’s carbon frame, bearings, and relationships with a lifetime warranty.
The frame warranty includes defective materials and functionality exclusive to the original owner.
The brand supports the bike’s bearings with a lifetime replacement scheme. If the pivot bearings are depleted during the original owner’s reign, Santa Cruz will send a replacement bearings within 48 hours of filling out a form.
Also, it states that the bullet has no “ownership parts” so you can find parts for your bullet wherever you ride.
Hi-tech carbon fiber
Santa Cruz’s high grade CC carbon fiber is installed and cured at the same time. Santa Cruz claims that this will reduce the amount of material used in construction, which will reduce the weight without losing strength.
Its front triangle is made of carbon fiber, which “wraps continuously between the tubes”, which effectively means that it is made of a single piece of material.
It has two advantages, says the American brand; Firstly, loads and impacts can be distributed throughout the structure of the bike, and secondly, shock, pivot mounts, drop outs and disc brake mounts are integrated into the frame rather than individual pieces, which adds even more strength. Here on CarBibles you can find interesting notes on the advantages of folding electric bicycles and choose the right one for you to aid easy storage and transportation.
Santa Cruz claims that its CC frames have no filler or gaps inside the tubes and that carbon bikes have no weight limit. Internally routed cables have cable guides to facilitate routing.
2021 Santa Cruz bullet motor and battery
The high-speed bulkheads of 2021 use Shimano’s DU-EP800 motor, the largest battery with a capacity of 630Wh. The latest motor has a maximum torque of 85Nm and 250W power, which is reduced to 2.6 kg from the old E8000 unit. According to Shimano, it has a 36 percent reduction in drag.
It uses the Shimano’s E7000 motor with the lowest speckle bullet CCR, 60Nm of maximum torque and 250W of maximum output output, and the other three models in the range are built into the EP8 system.
The output output can be tuned to each of the three modes of the motor using the e-tube project application.
2021 Santa Cruz bullet suspension
On a 170mm rear-wheel drive driven by a trademark virtual pivot point (VPP) suspension system, the Bullitt must be a confident successor.
Santa Cruz says the Bullite electric mountain bike is compatible with coil and air shocks, indicating that the dynamics of the suspension are tuned as progressively as possible to handle the linear spring rate of the coil springs.
2021 Santa Cruz bullet geometry
The geometry of the bullet is confidently modern, but not extreme. The range comes in four sizes, the smallest being the medium with a reach of 450mm and the largest being the XXL with a reach of 515mm.
Each size has a 64 degree head-tube angle and a 77-degree effective seat-tube angle. Wheelbases start at 1,239mm and increase to 1,328mm for extra-extra-large.
Throughout the sizes, the chainstays are fixed at 449 mm and the height of the lower bracket at 348 mm.
