The first 18 holes at the 2020 US Open played as easily as winged foot, allowing for the rest of the week. Expect stronger winds, cooler temperatures and firmer greens in the second round on Friday than we saw on opening day. I think you enjoyed scoring in the first 18 holes because you’re probably not going to see the rest of the way.
What you are going to see on Friday are some of the best golfers in the world, and it helps to keep your head up. Matthew Wolf and Thomas Peters will go early after the first rounds. Like Patrick Reid (-4) and Rory McIlroy (-3), leader Justin Thomas (-5) will be late. We see them fighting each other – perhaps more carefully – over a golf course that is going to have a big fight over the next three days. We will also see if Tiger Woods (+3), Dustin Johnson (+3) and Jordan Speith (+3) can make the cut on Friday in the first of the season’s six majors.
