World Cup gold now? - SWR Sport

After the Olympic victory and the European title, Francisco Bruce (22) wants to be on the podium at the World Track Cycling Championships. In France, the Swabian team wants to win its third gold this year in pursuit.

It’s an August day in Isuzu, Japan. Inside the dome-shaped velodrome, Francesca Browse and her German team wait four intense kilometers. Suddenly five deep tones muted the tension. Browsy immediately begins to kick hard.

The British team could not take the lead until the last bell rang on the final lap. In 4: 04: 249 minutes, the German quartet team set a new world record in pursuit. Gold in the supreme discipline of track cycling.

Olympic joy instead of everyday life in small towns

After a while, Bobby returned home in a quiet enigma at the bottom of the Swabian Alb. “At first it wasn’t everyday life,” the 22-year-old recalls the first few weeks back home. The days were filled with press conferences and photo shoots. There was only a gradual calm return, and the gold driver was able to recognize her great success. Because family was especially important to her, Browsie enjoyed the quiet days intensely with her closest confidant.

Family life around cycling

The spontaneous encounters at home in Browse, shared by mother, sister and aunt with Francis and her boyfriend, are a welcome change from the daily routine of professional athletes. On the other hand, at dinner with brother and father, it’s often about sports.

The talking shop at the dining table is “between some half knowledge and some experience”, she jokes. But Brownie knows that her family will always support her, whether she wins or loses.

Before the World Cup after the Olympics

However, Browsie’s Olympic victory could not be enjoyed very extensively. Two months after the Olympic Games, the European Championship followed in Switzerland, in which the German selection team won the next victory. Browsy praises the cohesive and perfectly coordinated teamwork. In her personal life, she gets along well with Lisa Brenauer, Mike Kruger and Laura Semilch: “We have a lot of fun when we’ve together.”

The next test will be held on Thursday evening. The German team will fight for another title at the World Cup in Roubaix, France. Because of her brilliant Olympic success, Brownie and her team have grown from a medalist to a favorite. “We want to go home with a medal with gold, of course.”

The German foreman has already shown that this is a very real goal in Wednesday ‘s qualification, as he set the fastest time 4: 13.082 minutes ahead of Italy, Great Britain and Ireland.
