Paraguayan police are trying to find another victim who was abducted in the San Pedro department in Paraguay, an area dominated by armed guerrilla groups that terrorize the neighboring border area.

Menonite Pedro Reimer, 23, works as an electrician at the Gaira Campana Farm and lives near Rio Verde. Paraguay portal Ultima Hora reports that he was caught near the farms of La Yea, Lucifer and Guira Campana around 5pm on Monday.

Unofficial information suggests that a ransom may have been demanded for the release of the abducted man. A spokesman for the FTC (Joint Task Force), Lt. Col. Luis Ap‌tegua, told the Paraguay portal that in addition to the national police, a large number of military agents were on the lookout for the young man.

Similar kidnappings are on the rise in the region. Mennonites have become Menon’s main target as he has lived in an area ruled by organized crime.

On November 22, Helmut Ediger, another Mennonite immigrant, disappeared with two workers on his property in San Pedro and was later found dead. Most of the kidnappings and attacks on the farms are attributed to the Paraguayan People’s Army by the Paraguayan government and police force.
