European captain Padreig Harrington picked up three of his wild cards this Sunday evening, which will strengthen the Whistle Straits team. Unexpectedly, he chose the personal experience of Sergio Garcia and Ian Polter. Irishman Shane Lowry chose “rice”.

Unlike Steve Stricker’s American team and its average age of 29, the Old Continent team (presented in detail here) will rely more on experience. Sergio Garcia (41, nine Rider Cups on the clock), Ian Poulter (45, six Rider Cups), Victor Howland (23) and Matthew Fitzpatrick (some) will be watching and supporting some “youngsters”. 27 years old). But obviously continuity and experience is the strength of the Blues in Wisconsin, along with the Westwoods, Casey and other McLarens.

Padreig Harrington logically chose Sergio Garcia, the record holder for points in the event and vice versa, Ian Polter, Team Talisman, locker room leader, always or almost boost in the Rider Cup.

The third invitation was more uncertain. Shane Lowry, the winner of the Ireland Open, was particularly preferred over Justin Rose.

Padre Harrington gave detailed reasons for his three choices.

Sergio Garcia

He’s a great ball hitter, he’s good at foursomes and four balls, but he’s mostly a Ryder Cup leader, and he brings a lot to the locker room. He loves the Rider Cup so much. He likes to take responsibility, be with others, share, he’s really a team player … everyone on the team wants to play with him.

Shane Lowry

He’s a beginner, but his track record is solid! He is very comfortable in the team environment and everyone knows him well. He is often good at big times and we expect a lot from him. He responds when needed and gives the team a lot of enthusiasm. He is a newcomer to the paper, but he is actually an experienced person.E. “

Ian Poulter

A talisman! The postman will bring a lot to the whole team and outside of the course. His energy is immense. He knows how to share his passion and pass it on. “
