A decade ago, the phone had only 8GB of memory, but today newer devices can hold up to 1Tb of data.

According to experts, consumers are now opting for 128GB smartphones, but that does not guarantee that they will run out of memory over time.

When the phone is full of memory, the device slows down, the battery drains very quickly, and some functions are not available, so it is important to pay regular attention to your phone’s memory.

Arnoldas Lucasius, an expert at the Tele2 Innovation Office, advises on how to free up phone memory and make it free. An expert will advise you on 5 simple ways to “clear” your phone’s memory and make sure you do not run out of time.

Organize regularly. Collects various files, gadgets, photos or videos that are not used by the smartphone, videos that do not take any action and take up space.

From time to time it is useful to “clean up” the photo bin and the My files application, which collect various downloaded documents.

Unused files can be deleted manually or with special gadgets. Smart Cleaner will help iPhone users and Super Clean Android owners.

You may also want to clear your Safari cache and browsing history to create space on your phone: When you open Safari, select Clear History and Website Data.

Regularly deleting unwanted files and browsing history will speed up your phone, protect you from possible viruses, and leave plenty of room for new files.

1. Store your data in the cloud

Still getting enough space after deleting unused files and browsing history? You can transfer the most important data (photos, videos or documents) to web servers – the “cloud”, where you can securely store large files and access them at any time.

It is a good idea to set up automatic data synchronization to ensure that the required data is not lost in the event of your phone being lost or misplaced.

You can choose from the most popular and widely used storage: Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, and iPhone owners can also use iCloud cloud storage.

Most of the promised storage comes with the first 2, 5 or 15 GB for free, but you will have to pay to get more space.

2. Restore to factory settings

If you want your phone to run as fast as it was purchased, it is a good idea to do a “general” cleaning every six months to restore your device to factory settings.

Before cleaning your phone this way, it is important to move all the apps and files you use to a safe location (memory card or “cloud”) or all the files on your phone will be lost.

To reset iPhone to factory settings, go to Settings> General> Reset> Reset all settings.

On Android phones, do the following: Settings> Backup & Reset> Factory Data Reset> Reset Phone “(Restore phone data).

3. Select the lower resolution

Because the latest technologies allow you to take photos in live mode and record videos even in high 4K or 8K resolution, photos and videos take up the most memory in the phone.

For this reason, even a short video can take up hundreds of megabytes of phone memory. If you do not have enough space on your phone from time to time, you should consider whether you really need high-definition videos and live photos.

You can quickly and easily change the resolution in the phone’s camera app settings.

4. Use SD cards

This way of expanding your phone’s memory only works for Android device owners. The microSD card can store photos, videos, music files or even documents, but you can not store various apps or games on the card.

Unlike some non-Apple devices, Apple devices do not support memory cards, so you may need to use the methods listed above to free up memory.

In Phone Settings you can check how much memory various files have stored on your device.

To test iPhone iPhone memory, press Settings> General> Storage and select Android Memory Settings or My Device.
