Dubai: “America's Got Talent” winners Lebanese dance group Mayyas are set to perform in Lebanon on August 1. Its founder and choreographer Nadeem Cherfan revealed to Arab News this week that the team was first inspired by the theater genre.

“We are playing a dramatic scene. People are used to seeing mythology and fantasy performed, but this is the first time we are touching on drama,” he told Arab News.

Cherfan noted that the show will be a “realistic” reflection of the daily lives of Lebanese.

The choreographer said that the inspiration for this show, like most of his works, came from women.

“I was raised by my mother and grandmother, so I have always seen the power of women. For me, Beirut is a woman,” he said. “For this play, it refers to my mother and grandmother and all the women who struggled and endured to get up every time.”

“This play is a tribute to all mothers in Lebanon.”

Cherfan said that the show holds a special place in the hearts of the dancers so they don't need any extra motivation.

“When you're doing what you love, motivation comes second. Everyone working on this project has passion and love for this country. We all inspire each other, we are connected to this history, we have a responsibility to this country,” he said.

Apart from winning the 17th season of America's Got Talent, one of Mayasin's highlights was performing with American superstar Beyoncé at the opening of Atlantis The Royale in Dubai in 2023.

“Beyoncé has been my dream since childhood,” Cherfan said. “She is the artist of my life and working with her is a dream come true. Since then, it has been very difficult to work with another artist because, as we all know, Queen set the bar very high. It was an experience I will never forget.”

Cherfan said he and his team worked with Beyoncé for eight days straight for the show. “She's a very hard-working artist, involved in everything that happens behind the scenes, behind the scenes and on stage,” he said.

About his show in Saudi Arabia, Cherfan said: “Saudi Arabia is another home for Mayis. This country is deeply invested in the arts. The way we are treated in Saudi Arabia is great – very polite and generous. They take care of everyone in the team. Every time Saudi Arabia knocks on the door, the Mayites call.
